Buying beauty products can be intimidating for even the most seasoned pro.  We’re taking the guessing out of the equation, by having our staff try beauty products and give their honest reactions, so you can decide what products best suit your needs.  In this post, we’ll be reviewing Hair Chemist’s Coconut Oil Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner.

What we thought

We had Stephanie, our social media manager, try out the coconut oil shampoo and conditioner, and asked her what she thought.  Here are her responses.

What is the condition of your hair? Describe before and after in detail.

I have pretty healthy hair considering it’s color treated; the ends are pretty dry from a bad ombre job a few years ago.  Since moving to Los Angeles I’ve really sought after every and any product that will add moisture to my hair.  Occasionally I’ll use coconut oil in my hair for an overnight mask, so I’m super stoked to try out the Hair Chemist Coconut Oil Hair Care products.

What surprised me about switching to this product is that the formula seems to be a lot more cleansing than the other products I use.  I feel my hair and scalp get super clean with these two.

I tried using it alone, but think that pairing it with some of my other masques and leave in conditioners works best for my hair type.

Did you like the scent? Why or why not?

First off, I want to preface with the fact I’m a big fan of coconut oils and pina coladas! This scent will turn your whole bathroom into a tropical smelling paradise during your shower. It’s sort of a cross between pina colada and tropical suntan oil — I’ve definitely envisioned being whisked away to a tropical island while using it.

How is the texture of your hair after using the product?

My hair and scalp felt really clean.  All the thick moisturizers have definitely left build-up that I wasn’t aware of until I used the coconut oil shampoo and conditioner.  My hair was a bit of the drier side, so the next time I used it I added Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk and it was perfect.

Did you have any improvements or changes to your hair?

My scalp and hair definitely feel stripped of all the extra moisturizers and serums that I normally use.  My hair seems easier to manage and my deep conditioning products work AMAZINGLY well after changing up my normal shampoo and conditioner routine.

Would you recommend this product to a friend?

I would definitely recommend this product to a friend who wanted to switch up her hair care regime.

What’s your overall rate 1 to 5? And why?

3.8 – I wish it had a tad more conditioning for my color treated hair, but for someone with healthy hair- i think this coconut oil shampoo and conditioner could be part of a holy grail product assortment.  Also, the smell is amazing if you love living on a tropical island!
